Part 1 Heel Spur Syndrome What Is It?

Let’s look at Heel Spur Syndrome!

It’s a condition where a bony growth forms on the underside of the heel, often causing sharp pain when standing or walking, especially in the morning. Patients may experience discomfort under the heel, feel tenderness when the area is touched, and difficulty with long periods of standing. This can lead to altered gait patterns and reduced mobility.
Heel spurs commonly develop due to chronic plantar fascia tension, repetitive stress, obesity, or improper footwear. Identifying contributing factors is essential before treatment.

Treatments

Treatments include shoe modifications and Custom Orthotics to reduce pressure and provide cushioning.

1. Shoe modifications:

– Cushioned soles to absorb shock and provide comfort

– Supportive heel counters

– Extra depth for comfort

– Soft midsoles for pressure relief and additional comfort

2. Custom Orthotics:

– Offload pressure from the heel to reduce pain during standing and walking

– Support the medial and lateral arches

– Improve shock absorption

– Overall promote heel comfort

Note: Orthotic design may include heel cups or extra padding depending on severity.
